Socialist Workers Party:
Visteon – How Workers Occupied And Won
An avalanche of job losses is sweeping across Britain, as bosses and the government try to make workers pay for the economic crisis.
When the Visteon bosses sacked their 600 workers at six minutes notice on 31 March 2009, it could have been another sorry chapter in this story.
But this time it was different. Workers in the Belfast plant launched a defiant occupation of their factory and were then joined by workers at the Enfield and Basildon plants who also occupied and campaigned.
And crucially Visteon won. They gave Ford, one of the world’s most powerful and ruthless multinationals, a bloody nose.
This pamphlet tells the story of how Visteon workers occupied and resisted – and how you can too.
